Crystal`s personal Statement

“Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another.”- Napoleon Hill

When you are young, the words spoken to you and your environment can heavily impact your life. If negative things are spoken to you, you will think negatively the majority of your life. If you hear positive things, then you will be a very optimistic person. In all my sixteen years of life, one person has given me a very optimistic outlook on life. My father has been one of the most influential people in my life. When I was young, my father sat down with me during the week and we watched shows that taught me a lot. He also made a board that had rhyming words, numbers, and my name on it to help me learn how to spell and count properly. Because of these actions, I was able to skip kindergarten and go straight to first grade from prekindergarten. I now have an advantage in school because of this. He made sure that everything I did and saw, would have a positive impact on my life. He influenced me to stay on the good path and not let anyone derail me from it.

My father was always pushing me to do well in everything that I do. If it had to do with school, he would make sure that I did my schoolwork and I did it well. Whenever I had to do any other activities, such as dancing in the church, he would always come out and support me. If I ever messed up on something, he would not scorn me. He would tell me that I did well, but I should try harder next time. My father made sure I knew that he would do anything and everything to make sure that life would not be such a burden on me. He would always tell me that his reason for doing all of this is because he did not have all of these great opportunities when he was younger, so he wanted to make sure I utilize every opportunity I receive.

When my father was constantly pushing me to do better, I did not like it at times. I used to get annoyed with him and not want to listen to him. Although I did not want to listen to him, I always did because he is my father and I have to obey his words. Now that I think about it, I am very grateful that he did because if it was not for him, I would not be where I am today.

Life is not an easy path to go through. However, if you have the right people to influence you, you can get through this bumpy road we call life. Thanks to my father, I learned to always do the best I can and to not let anyone's negative thinking impact me.
